The Gamage Family
After losing one of our dogs through old age we started looking for another to keep our other dog company. We found a lovely looking dog, only about 15 months old needing rehoming on pet4homes and she was nearby. We phoned and found out she was a Romanian rescue dog in foster so we arranged to visit, fell in love with her and the foster told us all about Amicii Dog Rescue which somehow madee the dog (Laura) even more special. Laura a slightly bent leg and after contacting Amicii was told how she was rescued near the market and had been malnourished and had one broken leg. She was and is the most loving dog you could wish for but at the start she was scared of everything even her own shadow. She would also only drink outside, but over time she has adapted to everything with some things taking longer than others, as expected.
I promised myself one day I would visit Amicii to see for myself the conditions in Romania and have now been lucky enough to have been three times to see Dora and the team and every time there is another story unfolding and more successes and sad stories to see and tell. On one visit my daughter and boyfriend came out with me to help, an experience they will never forget.
Aside from Laura, we have also fostered 3 dogs - colin, Charlie and most recently, Seb. The feeling of helping dogs get off the streets and Into a loving home and seeing them loved like they deserve is so rewarding and although it's heartbreaking to see a foster dog leave it is replaced with joy on choosing another to foster.
